Each major search engine has local versions, which aim to present searchers with more relevant, localised results. Google has literally scores of different search engines using different languages, each created with the intention of providing better search results for that country's users. So, it's worth remembering that search engine results vary between country-versions of each engine. There are also differences in search results based on the location of the searcher (i.e. a searcher looking for 'holiday homes to let' in the UK will get different results to a searcher in New Zealand looking with the same keywords - with engines and locations both differing).

Many of these search engines drill down into one specific vertical to give them a point of difference (some may argue a point). You'll find search engines dedicated to blogs, finance, images, the arts, children's material, business, computing, IT and so on.
